Zhang Aiwei, Biography

Zhang Aiwei was born in Macao. She was graduated from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in China with a major in Oil Painting, then she became a teacher in the same school, teaching oil paintings for years. In the 70’s, she was an Art Journalist as well as an Editor for a newspaper company. After the China’s cultural revolution, Zhang started her career as a professional artist. She traveled among Hong Kong, Taiwan, Canada and the United States for her oil painting creations, projects and teaching. For over half a century, she has devoted herself diligently and conscientiously to oil painting.

Zhang has created a large numbers of oil paintings with plentiful of subjects. She has successfully held over ten large-scale solo exhibitions and published eight albums of personal painting.

In 1994, she became a Canadian citizen. Now she is a member of the US Oil Painter Association, a member of the California Artist Union, and a member of the Canadian Artist Union.

Zhang’s life-long oil painting creations has made her particularly skilled at portraits, still life, and landscapes. She has outstanding achievement in all those area, and her artistic skills with her interpretation of the human expression have evolved into her own unique portrait painting style. She is especially well known and famous for her portraits, many famous people and political figures have had invited her to paint their portraits.

- The oil painting “Listening Respectfully”,
painted in 2004, was sold by Beijing Xinxinyuan International Auction Co., Ltd. at a transaction price of 450,000RMB in June, 2005.

- The oil painting “Mao Zedong Inspected Agricultural Machinery Plant”, painted jointly by Liang Zhaotang, Li Xingtao and Aiwei Chaung in 2005, was sold by “Huachen” at a transaction price of 3,300,000RMB in 2005.

- The oil painting “Hong Kong Shek O” was sold by Guangzhou Guardian International Auctions Co., Ltd at a transaction price of 200,000RMB in 2006.
