Jesús Hilera, Spanish sculptor born in Bilbao in 1979, graduated with honors from the Escuela de Artes y Oficios in Valladolid (Spain) after completing internships on different carving specialties in wood and stone - guided by the Spanish masters of religious imagery.
Having absorbed the classical methods and techniques, Jesús decided to open up new horizons and explore our perception of spatial and temporal continuity; playing with volumes, shapes and materials so the observer can get through the outer skin and into the inner universe of each sculpture;indulging in a creativity that ends up impregnating his oeuvre with a very unique, fascinating and recognizable style.
His pieces, whether abstract or figurative always convey significance; a thought; a question; a purpose that grants them an aura of subtle beauty and a sense of unconscious mystery for the beholder. His meticulousness turns each unique handiwork into the perfect collectors’ whim.
