Bruno Maganic, Biography
Bruno Maganic was born in Bosnia-Herzegovina and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Sarajevo in 1984. He was a professor at three different high schools and the head-designer for the Coal Mine Corporation in Bosnia. With Bruno’s experience working as a coal miner, he was inspired to create his artwork and was given permission to have a studio 4km underground in the side shaft of a coal mine. Here he created his artwork and developed his own unique technique which he calls “Coaldust.”
With this artistic movement, he has created numerous cycles of paintings utilizing all natural materials, including his own textured handmade paper, inks and colours from natural plant dyes. With his own personal experience of being a coalminer, and in such a challenging environment he was inspired to create paintings and sculptures that represent human nature and the challenges faced through the eyes, emotions, and thoughts of a miner.
Bruno had numerous successful solo and group exhibitions across Europe and was a member of the Colegium Artiscum, Sarejevo, Art Federation. He moved to Canada with his family in 1993, where he began his career as a scenic painter, lead sculptor, in the special effects department and art department in the Vancouver film Industry. He has worked on over 50 feature films and T.V. shows, over the span of 18 years. Bruno continues to create artistic form through sculpture and painting inspired by the adversity of human nature
